It is an unfortunate fact that accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. When an accident is caused by another person’s negligence or neglect, however, it only serves to compound the pain and suffering because those types of accidents are completely preventable. As was the case with an accident that took place at Weeping Water School in eastern Nebraska on Sunday, March 3rd, 2013. Around 1:30pm, during a youth wrestling tournament, a cable, or bolt, that was holding up a retractable basketball hoop allegedly broke causing the hoop to fall and injure four people. Two of the injured had to be flown to a local hospital for treatment, while the other two were transported by ambulance. Reports show the exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
Accidents like these can often be referred to as premises liability accidents. In a premises liability accident, the owner of the property or building where the accident occurred, can be held liable for the accident providing they either failed to properly maintain the property, neglected to post required safety warnings, or were negligent in some other fashion that resulted in the accident and injuries.
